Green Turtle Cay

Green Turtle Cay lies about 2 miles off the coast of Great Abaco Island, approximatley 25 miles from Marsh Harbour the third largest city in the Bahamas. It is a barrier island between Great Abaco and the North Atlantic Ocean. About three quarters of a mile offshore from Green Turtle Cay is a portion of the third longest barrier reef in the world. The island is 180 miles due east of West Palm Beach, Florida and 105 miles north of Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. The island is about 3 1/ 2 miles long and approximately a quarter of a mile wide. It has three well-protected anchorages.
There are approximately 450 residents on GreenTurtle Cay, 100 of whom are foreign home owners. The foreign homeowners are Americans, Canadians, English and several Europeans.

Green Turtle is unique because it has infrastructure. It has more to offer than the other cays. The cay has three food stores, two hardware stores, several restaurants, and a liquor store. There are two art galleries and three small hotels. The oldest of these is 180 years old. In addition there is a variety of museums. The village has a public library. There are five full service marinas, one of which offers dry storage and a travel lift for large yachts.

Green Turtle's main attraction is its beautiful beaches and turquoise waters. This is the islands most valuable commodity. It is vital that these commodities are appreciated and protected. The residents and visitors of Green Turtle enjoy its simple life and historic atmosphere.
